Privacy Policy

Honest Dog Nutrition (“we”) runs Honest Dog Nutrition. This policy says what we collect, why, who helps us handle it, and what control you have. We do not sell your data and we do not show advertising.

What we collect

• Account: your email address and a password (stored only as a salted hash by our authentication provider), plus the date you signed up and which version of our terms you accepted.
• Your pets: names, species, breed, birth date, weight, body-condition and life-stage history, activity level, and an optional photo.
• Your recipes and ingredients: the recipes you build, the amounts you enter, notes, and any custom ingredients you create (including nutrient values and label photos you scan).
• Beta requests: if you ask for beta access, the email address, optional name and optional note you send. We keep them while we consider your request, use them only to reply, and delete them if you ask.
• Technical data: the session cookie that keeps you signed in, and standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) kept by our hosting provider for security and troubleshooting.

We do not use advertising or analytics trackers. The only cookies are the ones needed to keep you signed in.

Why we use it

• to run the Service — show your pets and recipes and calculate nutrient results for you;
• to send the emails you trigger: account emails such as password reset and address confirmations (and, if you subscribe, receipts);
• to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems;
• to meet legal obligations.

Who processes it for us

• Supabase — database, authentication and file storage (data is stored in the United States, AWS us-east-2).
• Vercel — hosts the website and application.
• Resend — delivers our account emails.
• Anthropic — when you use the label scanner, the label photo you upload is sent to Anthropic’s AI service to read the printed values, through Anthropic’s commercial API. Under Anthropic’s commercial terms it does not use that input or output to train its models, and it automatically deletes inputs and outputs from its systems within 30 days, except that it may keep them longer where needed to enforce its usage policy (up to 2 years if flagged) or where the law requires. Please do not upload photos that contain anything you would not want processed this way.
• [Sentry — error reports, only if we switch it on: which page failed and the error message, never your cookies, form contents or account details.]
• [Stripe — payments, only if and when paid plans launch. We would not see or store your card number.]

These providers may only use your data to provide their service to us.

Sharing

Your pets, recipes and photos are private to your account. If you choose to submit a custom ingredient for review and it is approved, the ingredient (without your name or email) becomes part of the shared library for everyone. We may disclose data if the law requires it or to protect people’s safety.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account we delete your pets, recipes, custom ingredients, photos and login. Our database provider keeps daily backups for 7 days, so a copy of deleted account data can remain in a backup for up to 7 days after deletion, and is then removed. Uploaded photos are stored separately from those backups and are removed when you delete your account. Approved shared ingredients stay in the library, with your link to them removed.

Your choices

• Download your data (a machine-readable file) and delete your account at any time from Account.
• Change your email or password on the same page.
• You can ask us to correct or delete data, or ask how it is used, at hello@honestdognutrition.com. Depending on where you live you may have further rights (for example under the GDPR or CCPA); we will honour them.

Security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS and access to each account’s data is restricted to that account by database-level access rules. Pet photos and label photos are stored in private storage and shown through short-lived links. No system is perfectly secure; we will tell affected users and the authorities where the law requires.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
